The government announced last week that it would be scrapping the controversial Criminal Court charges from December 24th. Michael Gove made the announcement last week as pressure grew against the controversial system. He did state however that he would be looking for an alternative method of ensuring that those convicted of a criminal offence pay their fair share. The system, which has been in place for less than 12 months, just didn't work and removing it is certainly the right thing to do and some credence must go to the the government for eventually listening. You can read the Law Society's thoughts on the issue here - Law Society Gazette. Lets hope the system they look at in the future is both fair and managable.
