In our latest Meet the Team feature, we’re delighted to introduce Delia Crofts-Turnbull, a much-valued and long-standing member of the JWP family. Delia has been with the firm for over 15 years and is based at our Pontefract office, where she works as an Associate Solicitor in our Private Family team. With decades of experience in family law across West Yorkshire, Delia is well known for her expertise, strong local reputation and supportive, down-to-earth approach. Her knowledge, dedication and genuine care for clients make her an integral part of both the Pontefract office and the wider JWP team.
How long have you worked at JWP?
15 years and almost 2 months, if we’re counting!
What does your role consist of on a daily basis?
Dealing with emails, calls, client meetings, court and advocacy, drafting documents and advice, general administration of files and all that’s involved with a case.
How did your career start?
My career spans about 35 years (ouch!) from being an articled clerk – which back in the day was what trainee solicitors were called – to running branch offices dealing with all aspects of general practice. About 25 years ago it became necessary to specialise, so I did Personal Injury work and Family work before eventually specialising in Private Family Law. Care work was not for me, and I have huge admiration for my colleagues who work in this very difficult area of law.
I have always been a lawyer and can’t really see what else I would have done. I have always been argumentative according to my parents, so I guess it was a natural progression!
What is your favourite thing about the job?
I have met some very lovely clients, but the people I’ve worked with are literally my work family. Everyone says they have the best colleagues but that is not possible because they all work for JWP! The whole team across all offices is a great mix of wonderful individuals, but the ones at Pontefract are just amazing. I actually have a huge fondness for the town as most of my working life has been there.
When not working, what would your ideal weekend consist of?
If I can’t make it to and from Greece in a weekend then it would start with a long swim (as would every day to be fair), time with my husband and grown-up family sharing a drink and some food, and a good old natter and catch up. I am very fortunate to have the best of both worlds with work and home and never take that for granted.
