At JWP, we are proud of the dedicated people who make up our team. In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we speak with Lois, Director and Solicitor within our highly regarded Child Care Law department.
Lois began her training contract with JWP Solicitors in 2012 and has since built extensive experience representing parents and children in public and private law proceedings. As a Children Panel accredited solicitor, Lois is able to represent children directly and regularly appears before the Family Proceedings Court and County Court.
We caught up with Lois to learn more about her career journey, what she enjoys most about her role, and how she likes to spend her time outside of work.
Can you tell us about your career journey and how you came to join JWP Solicitors?
During my academic years, I had the opportunity to complete work experience within the care department here at JWP. I loved the area of law and knew that was where my heart was, in terms of my future career.
I began my legal career by following a traditional path, completing my law degree and LPC at BPP Leeds. My initial professional experience started in personal injury at a company called Parabis which provided a valuable foundation; however, it also clarified that my true professional interests lay elsewhere.
After securing a training contract with JWP, I focused on building my expertise, eventually progressing to a Senior Solicitor role and ultimately accepting an invitation to join the Board of Directors.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
I love my job, which I know isn’t necessarily very common. What I find most fulfilling is the opportunity to support families and young people navigating some of the most turbulent chapters of their lives. Being able to advocate for them during these critical moments is a huge responsibility, and there is immense satisfaction in securing the right and best possible outcomes.
I particularly enjoy the courtroom aspect of my work. Acting as a voice for parents, carers, and children, and ensuring that their perspectives are articulated clearly and effectively before a Judge, is the most meaningful part of my work.
Outside of work, how do you like to switch off and spend your time?
To recharge away from the demands of legal practice, I train and compete in CrossFit. It helps me switch off from work and is demanding both physically and mentally. I regularly compete in events across the UK and internationally. More recently, I have expanded this passion by helping coach fitness holidays, which has been a rewarding way to share my enthusiasm for health and wellness. It is also extremely fulfilling helping people learn or improve skills.
