Since 13 July, families applying for Probate face a significant increase in the court application fee, which has risen from £300 to £526 – an increase of more than 75%. At the same time, the fee to make certain applications to the Court of Protection has also increased to £432.
For many people, these additional costs come at an already difficult and emotional time. While court fees are set by the Government and cannot be avoided, there are steps you can take to ensure the estate or application is dealt with as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
Avoiding costly delays and mistakes
Whether you’re administering the estate of a loved one or applying to the Court of Protection on behalf of someone who has lost capacity, mistakes or incomplete applications can lead to unnecessary delays, additional administration and avoidable expense.
By instructing an experienced solicitor, you can benefit from:
- Accurate preparation of applications and supporting documentation.
- Guidance through complex legal and financial requirements.
- Reduced risk of delays caused by errors or missing information.
- Practical advice to help protect the value of the estate wherever possible.
While professional advice cannot remove the court fees themselves, it can help minimise the overall cost, stress and time involved in the process.
